Dr. Morello is renowned as a board-certified plastic surgeon with more than 40 years of medical excellence and personal service to his patients. He knew that he wanted to pursue a career in medicine at about age 12. His undergraduate education was at the University of Notre Dame, graduating on the Dean's List with a Bachelor of Science in 1965. He then earned his M.D. from Georgetown University School of Medicine in 1969.
Both his internship and full general surgery residency were at Hahnemann University under Dr. Charles Wolferth. He trained in plastic surgery at the Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery at NYU Medical Center, under Dr. John Marquis Converse, from 1974 to 1976.
He entered private practice in Westchester, NY, while continuing as clinical associate professor at Bellevue Hospital and NYU. Dr. Morello was very active in the burgeoning field of microvascular surgery, and published the first clinical paper out of NYU on that topic in 1977.
Dr. Morello is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners. He holds current licensure in Florida and New York. From 2008 to 2012 he practiced in both states concurrently, and was featured on the cover of a medical practice publication about his unique experience. He now practices exclusively in Jupiter, FL.
At various times Dr. Morello has held staff privileges at the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, Lenox Hill Hospital, Northern Westchester Hospital Center, St. Agnes Hospital, Putnam Community Hospital, United Hospital, White Plains Hospital (Chief of Plastic Surgery), Jupiter Medical Center and the Jupiter Outpatient Surgery Center.
Regarded as a pioneer in office surgery and outpatient surgery accreditation, Dr. Morello opened his first accredited facility in 1983. His New York practice built a larger, Medicare-certified Ambulatory Surgery Center in 2008. Currently he performs surgery in the Aqua Plastic Surgery Facility in Jupiter, FL.
He served on the Operating Committee and subsequently the Board of Directors of the American Society for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) from 1987 onward, culminating in four years serving as its third President (1994-1998). He then continued as a Trustee until 2017.
Dr. Morello also devoted substantial time to activities in the prestigious American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), holding a series of important committee chairs and serving on the LSNA task force. He was on the Board of Directors from 1991 to 2008, culminating in being elected Millennial President for 2000-2001. He considers this achievement the capstone on a career marked by success. He then served on the Board of Trustees from 2001 to 2008.
He has also served on the Board of Directors of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation, and as a Governor of the National Endowment for Plastic Surgery. He held several committee posts for the American Society of Plastic Surgery, and was elected to the Ethics Council, serving from 1992-1995.
Nonmedical activities include having served on the Board of Directors of the Whippoorwill Club, Armonk, NY from 1989 to 1995, including three years as Golf Committee Chair, and served as Vice President. At the Jupiter Hills Club, Tequesta, FL, he has served on the House Committee 2010-2017, the Heritage Committee from 2017 onward, and chaired the club's 50th Anniversary celebration.
He is noted as an in-demand speaker and teacher in his field, and has been a frequent contributor of articles to professional journals and books. He has given more than 80 teaching courses and scientific presentations at national meetings, and published 30 peer-reviewed scientific articles and book chapters.
