Wise with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Wise celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Mr. Wise, the owner and designer of Wildscapes, LLC, established his successful business in 2006. Offering unique services to clients which include restoring land to its native habitat, he also provides bioengineered shore lines, recreation of prairie tracts and garden design services. In addition to managing Wildscapes, LLC, Mr. Wise has worked as an adjunct faculty member at Kellogg Community College since 2013, where he teaches courses in art welding. He has notably sold many of his one-of-a-kind welded steel sculptures at the East End Gallery, the KIA Museum, at commercial shows and directly to clients.

Having begun as an entomologist with the U.S. Navy's Naval Facilities Engineering Command in 1969, Mr. Wise lived and worked in Philadelphia at the time. He was responsible for the fumigation of the Rare Book Collection of the Library of the U.S. Naval Academy. He continued his career in public horticulture having realized that, rather than managing disease control, he preferred to be involved in growing and tending to garden life. Returning to school, Mr. Wise studied botany, gardening and business management. In 1980, he was additionally the project manager of a prairie re-creation at the Shaw Nature Preserve.

Mr. Wise eventually became the garden director at the Memphis Botanical Garden in Tennessee between 1983 and 1994, where he oversaw construction of the six-acre Japanese Garden of Tranquility and the Little Garden Club, Garden Club of America Sensory Garden. He also served for one year as the executive vice president of Agricenter International in Memphis between 1994 and 1995 before becoming the executive director of the Leila Arboretum Society in Battle Creek between 1997 and 2007. While in Michigan, Mr. Wise was responsible for the development of Kaleidoscope Garden, a one-and-a-half-acre interactive children's enclosed garden and pavilion. He was also active with the board of directors at the Leila Arboretum Society, which raised $4.1 million for program expansion and infrastructure.

Outside of his full-time commitments, Mr. Wise served as the chairman of the advisory committee for the Department of Horticulture in Union, Missouri, was a reviewer and panelist for the Institute of Museum and Library Services and a urban forestry representative to Takasaki Japan, Sister City of Battle Creek. He was also an honorary director of the Nature Institute in Alton, Illinois. Moreover, Mr. Wise has been strategic in his writing, penning "The Role of Labeling in Botanical Gardens" in 1979, followed by "The Path to Self-Governance" in 1993.

Mr. Wise received a Bachelor of Science at Loyola University, Maryland in 1967. Graduating at the top of his class, he also received a Mendel Gold Medal in Biology. He later acquired a Master of Science at North Carolina State University in 1970 and a second Master of Science at the University of Delaware in 1977. Mr. Wise also completed various art courses at the Smart Shop, the Kalamazoo Institute of Art and the RMTC. He is a certified natural shoreline professional in the state of Michigan and was formerly certified through the Society of American Entomologists. He discovered a new species of mite that feeds on eggs and larvae of the house fly and has type specimens in collections of the Smithsonian Institution and the British Museum.

Mr. Wise has served on several industry-related organizations, including as the S.E. Regional director of the American Association of Botanic Gardens and Arboreta, and president of the Memphis Metro Attractions Association. He is a past president of the Doty Wildflower Association, a member and museum assessment surveyor of the American Association of Museums, and a member of the Wildflower Association of Michigan. Locally, Mr. Wise served as the president of the Rotary Club of Battle Creek and has served in multiple positions and is currently active with Business Network International Cereal City.

A leader of numerous civic and community organizations, Mr. Wise first served as a leader for the Boy Scouts of America between 1984 and 1992 and excelled as a member on the board of visitors of the Memphis Convention and Visitors Bureau during 1989. In 1994, he was named an honorary councilman for the City of Memphis and a member of the Memphis State University taskforce. Securing a U.S. Public Health Service grant in 1969, Mr. Wise was later a Longwood Program Fellow between 1975 and 1977 and Paul Harris Fellow in Rotary International. Honored with a Distinguished Employee Award from the City of Memphis in 1987, Mr. Wise is also a celebrated Marquis listee who has been featured in the 44th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America.
