Dr. Sridhar Yaratha Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Psychiatric Medicine

    RICHMOND, VA, February 06, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sridhar Yaratha has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Backed by a love for service, Dr. Yaratha pursued a career in medicine, culminating in his current work as an attending psychiatrist specializing in outpatient adult psychiatry for Gateway Homes, where he caters to patients with chronic mental illness, and manages tele-psychiatry services for five locations. Additionally, he excels in private practice in Richmond, evaluating and treating adults with substance abuse disorders and/or co-occurring mood disorders. Prior to obtaining his current positions, Dr. Yaratha has worked as the acting chief of mental health services, the attending psychiatrist and the medical director of inpatient psychiatry for Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center, a forensic psychiatrist for Central State Hospital, an associate professor of psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine and a psychiatrist for the geriatrics unit at the Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute.

At the start of his career during the late 1990s to mid-2000s, Dr. Yaratha gained valuable expertise in psychiatric work as well as with the geriatric community as a staff psychiatrist at Vera French Community Mental Health Center and Thomas Memorial Hospital, a resident with the Charleston Area Medical Center and a contracted worker in psychiatry for QTC Medical Management. Over the years, he has also provided his considerable knowledge to the Genesis Medical Center, Central State Hospital's Men's Chronic Mental Health Unit with the Department of Behavioral Health and Development Services. Dr. Yaratha retains his professional alignment with the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine in order to remain aware of changes in the field.

Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia, Dr. Yaratha has earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Austin College, a Doctor of Medicine from Spartan Health Sciences University School of Medicine and a certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Devoted to his community, he also served in executive positions with the local school board and homeowner's association in addition to the India Association of Virginia. With a plethora of knowledge at his disposal, Dr. Yaratha has contributed to numerous seminars, lectures and articles, including "Behavioral Management of Antisocial Behaviors," "Sell v. United States; A Discussion on Competency," "Risperidone and Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome" and "Two Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome," among others.

In light of his amazing professional accomplishments, Dr. Yaratha accepted a Teaching Award in Psychiatry in 1999, and both a Resident of the Year Award from Pfizer and the Esther McMahon Award for Psychiatry Resident of the Year in 2001. More recently, he was presented with teaching awards from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.
