Mary Lea Prentice Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Mary Lea Prentice's greatest career highlight was receiving the Those Who Excel Award from the Illinois State Board of Education in 1986.

With more than 35 years in education to her credit, Ms. Prentice is an authority in her industry. She served as a member of the North Central Accreditation Visitation Teams and media supervisor at Pikeland Community Unit School District #10. She was also a consultant for Library Book Selection Service Incorporated, a library assistant at Streator Elementary School District 44, and an elementary school teacher in Hancock County, Illinois. Alongside her primary endeavors, Ms. Prentice also served as vice president of the West Central Illinois Area Great River Library Systems, where she sat on the board of directors. Likewise, she was involved with the Pittsfield Public Library for 14 years.

Ms. Prentice received a Bachelor of Science from Western Illinois University in 1958 and a Master of Science from Illinois State University in 1974. She completed postgraduate coursework at the University of Missouri in 1982 and at St. Cloud State University in 1982. Ms. Prentice enjoys reading and traveling, and she has visited more than 40 countries.

Outside of her professional responsibilities, Ms. Prentice remained informed of the changes and advancements in her industry through relevant organizations. She was a member of the National Education Association, the Illinois State Board of Education on Media and Library Council, the Association for Educational Communications and Technology, the Division of School Media Specialists, the Western Illinois Audiovisual Association, and the Illinois School Library Media Association. Likewise, Ms. Prentice served as treasurer and president of the Illinois Association of Educational Communications and Technology and president of the Sigma chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Ms. Prentice has authored a number of articles that have been featured in professional journals. In light of her many contributions to the field, she has received awards and honors throughout her career. Ms. Prentice was recognized as a Delta Kappa Gamma Scholar by Illinois State University and a National Defense Education Act Scholar by Purdue University. However, her greatest career highlight was receiving the Those Who Excel Award from the Illinois State Board of Education in 1986. Ms. Prentice has been featured in the third edition of Who's Who in American Education and the 15th and 16th editions of Who's Who of American Women.
