NEW ORLEANS, LA, April 15, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Alvin M. Rouchell, MD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Rouchell celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging more than 45 years of expertise in psychiatry, Dr. Rouchell has earned distinction as the chairman of the department of psychiatry at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans from 1995 to 2010 and chairman emeritus from 2010 to the present time. Specializing in the medical facets of psychiatry, he worked for the largest nonprofit, academic health care organization in the state of Louisiana. Originally recruited as the head of the consultation liaison service at Ochsner in 1981, Dr. Rouchell held his position for 24 successful years. Today, he continues to contribute to the field as a clinical professor at both Louisiana State University (LSU) since 1999, and in the same capacity at his alma mater, Tulane University, since 1991. He has been a faculty member at Tulane since 1973.

During his career at Ochsner, Dr. Rouchell encountered numerous challenges when Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. While working at the only hospital to remain open, he was instrumental in overseeing his department and caring for patients who were still lingering in the area. He was also a staff member at Ochsner when its residency merged with the LSU residency. Working together, Dr. Rouchell helped strengthen both institutions so that students could still enjoy public and private teachings and training.

A native of New Orleans, Dr. Rouchell graduated from Jesuit High School. He subsequently attended college locally, pursuing a Doctor of Medicine at Tulane University and graduating in 1969. He then completed an internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, followed by a residency in psychiatry at Tulane University, where he was named as the chief resident, between 1969 and 1973. He also notably served as a lieutenant commander with the U.S. Public Health Service between 1973 and 1975, which is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services regarding public health and headquartered in Washington, D.C. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Rouchell is board certified in psychiatry.

Dr. Rouchell is an elected fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He is a member of the American College of Psychiatrists. He is also a member of the Louisiana Psychiatric Medical Association, where he served on the geriatrics committee from 1990 to 1995 and the continuing education committee between 1990 and 2010. Additionally, Dr. Rouchell remains active as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been included in the 55th edition of Who's Who in America.
