Dr. Byungse Suh has garnered a laudable reputation as a professor on behalf of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

Having accrued more than 40 years of inimitable experience in the fields of microbiology and immunology, Dr. Suh has garnered a laudable reputation as a professor on behalf of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University. Joining the faculty in 1978 as an assistant professor, his research interests have included protein binding abnormalities and underlying mechanisms. Meanwhile, Dr. Suh's areas of expertise lay in pharmacokinetics of antimicrobial agents, drug protein binding in disease states, in vitro determination of drug phototoxicity and clinical trial studies of antimicrobial agents.

A native of South Korea, Dr. Suh contributed for the initial stages of his career as a pharmacist. Working in the microbiology department at an area medical school, he was dispatched to an island where more than 5,600 people had been suffering from leprosy, a chronic, infectious disease that causes skin lesions and nerve damage in the arms, legs and skin areas around the body. After working for three weeks on the island alongside the chief of microbiology, Dr. Suh decided to return to college in order to pursue a career in medicine so that he could better help others.

Dr. Suh is a graduate of Chungang University in South Korea, where he received a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy in 1962. He later attended the University of Kansas, where he completed a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1967 and 1969, respectively, followed by a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Miami in 1973. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include a postdoctoral fellowship in biochemistry at the University of Iowa, followed by an internship and residency in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at the University of Wisconsin Hospital. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Suh is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Infectious Diseases.

Renowned for his expertise, Dr. Suh was responsible for discovering a chemical structure of a uremic protein binding inhibitor with the assistance of an NIH grant he received in 1982. He has notably contributed approximately 120 scholarly articles to various peer-reviewed journals based on his research, including in the Journal of Infectious Diseases, the Journal of Clinical Microbiology and the Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy. To remain aware of developments in his field, Dr. Suh has maintained his professional affiliation with the American College of Physicians, the College of Physicians of Philadelphia and the American Society of Microbiology and the Infectious Diseases Society of America, for which he was elected as a fellow. He is also a member of the Korea Ilsan Handicapped Children Support Association, where he served as president from 1983 to 2013.
