Dr. Norma Dianne McNair retired in 2018 as a clinical nurse specialist of vascular surgery, plastic reconstructive surgery and orthopedic trauma.

Leading a long and successful career in nursing that spanned 42 years, Dr. McNair retired in 2018 as a clinical nurse specialist of vascular surgery, plastic reconstructive surgery and orthopedic trauma at the Ronald Reagan University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center. Aligned with the Medical Center since 1991, she gained expertise in various other areas of the field, including neurosurgery and the intensive care unit. Dr. McNair formerly held positions as a case manager in private duty, as a staff and clinical nurse at several hospitals and excelled as a legal nurse consultant for medical malpractice cases and for medical-legal consultation.

Dr. McNair's efforts in the medical field have extended into serving on various committees and boards over the past 25 years as well. She has also worked as a reviewer of the lifelong learning series for the American Heart Association since 2018, and as the chairperson of the stroke nursing committee for the American Heart Association Council on Cardiovascular and Stroke Nursing since 2019. What's more, Dr. McNair recently accepted the position of the president of the American Board of Neuroscience Nurses in 2020.

An award-winning presenter in her field, Dr. McNair has also contributed numerous articles to scholarly journals, as well as abstracts, and has contributed chapters to several books by other authors. A seasoned researcher, her efforts have been funded through grants by the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing and the Gamma Tau chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. Contributing her health care expertise to her community, Dr. McNair has also led cultural affairs efforts for the American Red Cross in Houston between 1987 and 1988. She has also been a member and a committee mission member of the Brentwood Presbyterian Church.

Dr. McNair received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at California State University in 1976, followed by a Master of Science in nursing at Yale University in 1985. She subsequently acquired a post-master's NP certificate through California State University in 1997 before ultimately completing a Doctor of Philosophy at UCLA in 2012. Dr. McNair holds multiple certifications, including as an adult health clinical nurse specialist, stroke certified registered nurse and acute care nurse practitioner.

Among her professional memberships, Dr. McNair has been actively involved with the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses, the American Heart and Stroke Association, the American Nurses Association and the Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science. As a testament to her success in health care, she received an Excellence in Advanced Practice Nursing Award from the American Association of Neuroscience News in 2014. Among other recognitions, she received a Third Prize for her poster presentation on traumatic brain injury in 2008 from Sigma Theta Tau's Gamma Tau chapter-at-large. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. McNair has been cited in the 26th through 58th editions of Who's Who in America, as well many more editions of Who's Who in American Nursing, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare and Who's Who in the West.
