Dr. Cabrera-Otero is renowned as a sex educator and sex therapist who used to participate in radio and TV shows as well as a conference instructor in schools and churches on the topic. She is also a primary care physician with a Master's in Public Health and more than 45 years of service to her patients. Inspired by a childhood visit to a neurologist who had been treating her grandmother, she decided at a young age to seek a career in medicine. She initially pursued an education the University of Puerto Rico, obtaining both a Bachelor of Science and a medical technologist degree in 1967. Dr. Cabrera-Otero earned a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Valencia in 1974 before returning to the University of Puerto Rico to accrue a postgraduate certificate in geriatrics in 1988 and a Master of Public Health in 1996. She also earned 248 credits in homeopathic medicine and 250 credits in Unity Church.
Since 1978, Dr. Cabrera-Otero has been active as the medical director and founder of the clinical laboratory at CDT Minillas. She additionally worked as the principal and owner of CDT Minillas, a family medicine clinic serving patients in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, from 1978 to the present. She further flourished as a sex educator and a sex therapist with AASECT. A diplomate of the American Board of Sexology, Dr. Cabrera-Otero has found success as an active member of staff at the Hospital Hima San Pablo Bayamón from 1985 to the present.
Dr. Cabrera-Otero is a member of the Puerto Rico College of Physicians, where she has maintained her involvement as the secretary Bayamón College of Physicians since 2016. She has been recognized as a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice and the first female president of the organization's Puerto Rico chapter. Dr. Cabrera-Otero has also been an active member of the American Medical Association since 1980 and the American academy of Family Physicians since 1983. She believes the secret to her success is the love and caring she showed her patients during her presidency in the Puerto Rico chapter of the AAFP. She founded the journal of the academy that today all physicians receive. She is proud to remain in practice at the age of 75 and hopes to continue to provide compassionate care for her patients for years to come.
She is married to Antonio Nieves-Negron and has one daughter, Sylvianne – her beloved one.
