NYAC thanks TPASC for its focus on Athletic and Community Well-being

North York Aquatic Club is grateful to Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre for its focus on Athletic and Community Well-being and is looking forward to the additional reopening of pools across the Greater Toronto Area

TORONTO, ON, July 11, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- North York Aquatic Club (NYAC) would like to express its gratitude to the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre (TPASC) for working tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic to support the competitive swimming community and recently reopening their pools to swim training.

We appreciate the efforts of the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre staff in implementing protocols that help minimize the likelihood of transmission of COVID-19 to NYAC staff and participants.

The benefits of swimming are endless, especially during this current crisis. NYAC's Director of Performance Eddie Toro promotes an approach that targets the community as well as the individual swimmer's physical, psychological, and emotional development. And while some may question the lifespan of COVID-19 in water, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have said "[t]here is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, or water playgrounds."

This week ten NYAC swimmers returned to training at Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre and plans are in place for more NYAC swimmers to return to the pool in the near future.

As Matt Laslop, a National level swimmer stated, "the sport of swimming offers a fairly unique opportunity to enter a different world, where you get to escape the worries surrounding your mind, relax and focus on the task at hand. It is a great way to disconnect from the stresses of daily routines and distract your mind with something different."

NYAC supports and hopes that all indoor pools follow the lead of Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre. Recognizing the need to work with organizations such as NYAC to provide opportunities for athletes to return to activities they are passionate about during these uncertain times.

North York Aquatic Club is a non-profit, member run club serving the community of Toronto since 1958. NYAC offers precompetitive and competitive programs for swimmers from 6 to 70 years of age with a current membership of over 800 members living in the Greater Toronto Areas. NYAC has produced over 15 Olympians and continues to strive to develop youth who are resilient, capable, and work to reach their potential.
