As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Having accrued over six decades of inimitable expertise in the field of cardiology, Dr. DeSanctis retired from the practice of medicine in 2014, having earned the distinguished title of Physician and Director Emeritus of Clinical Cardiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). Dr. DeSanctis prepared for his career in medicine by receiving a Bachelor of Science degree, summa cum laude, at the University of Arizona (1951), followed by a Doctor of Medicine degree, magna cum laude, from Harvard Medical School in 1955. Dr. DeSanctis did all of his medical residency and cardiac training at the MGH. Between 1956-1958, he served in the United States Navy as the Assistant to the Attending Physician to Congress.
