Ernestine Walkes Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Collections

Ms. Walkes teaches senior citizens at the Glenwood and Vandalia Senior Centers in her retirement

BROOKLYN, NY, July 21, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ernestine Walkes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Inspired by her mother, a phenomenal role model and educator, Ms. Walkes endeavored to live life by her example. Although she originally relocated to the United States to pursue a career in nursing, she decided against this career choice when she was approached with new opportunities. From 1974 until her retirement in 2003, she excelled as a collection controller for KeySpan. During this time, she managed multiple accounts for commercial buildings, residences, churches, hospitals and John F. Kennedy International Airport. While meeting with other account managers, Ms. Walkes was able to help her clients defer payment plans, while enabling them to pay off their deficits in a timely manner.

Even though her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. Walkes is especially proud of being selected for the International Women's Leadership Association. In 2015, she was recognized for outstanding leadership by declaration of the aforementioned association's executive committee. A proud breast cancer survivor, Ms. Walkes is additionally honored to be teaching arts and crafts to senior citizens at Glenwood Senior Center and Vandalia Senior Center in conjunction with Catholic Charities and the Department of Aging Guidelines.

At the beginning of her career, Ms. Walkes earned a Bachelor of Science in marketing from Medgar Evers College. She subsequently obtained a master's degree from the International Theological Seminary of California. Dedicated to those less fortunate, she has contributed to a number of organizations over the years, including the Remsen Senior Center, the National Breast Cancer Coalition, the American Cancer Society, Downstate Medical and SHARE. In the coming years, Ms. Walkes aims to publish a book on the story of her life.
