Halio, PhD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Halio celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. An accomplished literature and language professor, Dr. Halio's journey in academia began in 1955 as an instructor of English at the University of California, Davis. Becoming a full professor after a decade on campus, he was subsequently offered a position at the University of Delaware in 1968 as a Shakespearean scholar. Over the next 35 years, Dr. Halio's career continued to blossom, during which he advanced to become the director of the Center for Teaching Effectiveness, an associate provost for instruction and the director of Humanities Semester. He also served on numerous academic committees and chaired the board of editors for the University of Delaware Press. Having earned the distinguished title of a professor emeritus in 2003, Dr. Halio continues to guide groups of students on their annual study trips abroad.

Dr. Halio taught various Shakespeare courses at the University of Delaware throughout the course of his tenure, including Shakespeare in Performance, the Age of Elizabeth and Shakespeare and Modern Drama. Never tiring in his passion for the study of the great bard, he likewise also taught other graduate and undergraduate level courses, such as Freshman Composition, Introduction to Poetry, Modern British Literature, Moral Issues in Modern Literature and, among others, Contemporary Jewish-American Literature. During the early stages of his career, Dr. Halio had the opportunity to work abroad as a senior lecturer at the University of Malaya in Malaysia and was also a senior Fulbright Lecturer at University of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and the University of Sofia in Bulgaria. He also taught at the University of Istanbul and the University of Nicosia and lectured at Hebrew University in Israel, Warwick University in England, and a number of other foreign universities. He served as a Fulbright senior consultant for the Federal University of Vitoria in Brazil.

A talented writer and editor, Dr. Halio has written or edited over 40 books. His first monograph was on Angus Wilson in 1964. He also wrote Philip Roth Revisited, Understanding Shakespeare's Plays in Performance, and A Midsummer Night's Dream in Performance among other works. Besides these he has edited a number of collections of essays on Shakespeare and on contemporary authors and contributed chapters to various books by others. He has edited The Merchant of Venice and Henry VIII for Oxford University Press, and two versions of King Lear for Cambridge U.P.

Dr. Halio pursued his undergraduate studies at Syracuse University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in English, summa cum laude, in 1950. He subsequently earned a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in English at the prestigious Yale University in 1951 and 1956, respectively. Aligned with several pertinent organizations throughout his academic career, Dr. Halio has been a member of the Modern Language Association, the American Literature Association, the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics and Writers, the International Shakespeare Association and the Shakespeare Association of America. He is also a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Dr. Halio received several fellowships, as well as grants for teaching seminars to school teachers. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been showcased in over 40 editions of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Education, Who's Who in the East and Who's Who in the World. A loving husband to his wife, Diane, Dr. Halio is likewise the proud father of two children, and the grandfather of one.
