Having harbored a longstanding fascination with science, Ms. Kuhr received a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and economics from Carnegie Mellon University in 1980. Eminently qualified, she is also a registered professional engineer in the state of North Carolina, and has received INPO emergency preparedness certification. Likewise, Ms. Kuhr is well versed in the incident command system.

Ms. Kuhr began her career as an assistant engineer with Babcock and Wilcox Co., after which she earned distinction as a nuclear production engineer for Duke Power Co. She subsequently served as an emergency planner, senior engineer and lead nuclear engineer. She now serves as an emergency preparedness program lead for Global Nuclear Fuel. Ms. Kuhr now maintains professional affiliation with the American Nuclear Society, U.S. Women in Nuclear and the honorable societies of Tau Beta Pi and Pi Tau Sigma.

As a respected voice in her field, Ms. Kuhr has presented her scholarly papers at various industry conferences. Her innovative work was notably featured at the fifth topical meeting on Emergency Preparedness and Response in 1995, the NEI EP Information Forum in 1998, and the American Nuclear Society Winter Annual Meeting in 2001. Throughout her prolific career, Ms. Kuhr also raised two children as a single mother and survived two instances of breast cancer. Civically, she has been active with the Hope of Israel Congregation and the Delta Gamma Fraternity. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, needlecrafts and cooking.
