From an early age, Dr. Greymorning recognized the social, political and economic injustices directed towards the Native American populations throughout the United States. As a child, he listened to the hardships and mistreatment that his elders experienced at the hands of law enforcement, landlords and non-indigenous populations in general. As he grew, Dr. Greymorning's uncle advised him to attain a higher education in anthropology to learn about and better understand the widespread prejudices against North American tribes. Heeding this advice, he resolved to pursue a professional future in cultural and political anthropology.
Prior to his success, Dr. Greymorning enrolled at the State University of New York at New Paltz and obtained a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology. After earning a Bachelor's degree, he relocated to Norman and earned a Master of Arts from the University of Oklahoma. Thriving under the tutelage of his professors at the aforementioned institute, he persisted in his educational endeavors and graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in 1992.
While completing his doctorate, Dr. Greymorning diligently served as an instructor of aboriginal self-government, linguistic anthropology, and comparative Indian legislation at the University of Alberta from 1988 to 1992. In December 1992 he was asked to move back to the Wind River reservation in Wyoming where he directed a language and culture program. It was while in this position that he developed his globally successful method for teaching languages, Accelerated Second Language Acquisition©™. Since 1995, he continues to excel as an educator of anthropology and Native American studies at the University of Montana. Throughout his tenure, his areas of expertise have included Indian cultures as expressed through languages, Indigenous worldview perspectives, Native American health practices and healing plants, Indigenous Peoples and development issues, and methods for teaching Indigenous languages, among others.
For a brief time in 1997, he traveled to Australia and taught as a visiting professor at Southern Cross University. Most notably, Dr. Greymorning acted as the director of the Indigenous governance programs for the University of Victoria on Vancouver Island in Canada from 2001 to 2002.
Owing to his efforts, Dr. Greymorning was the invited speaker to talk about his work testing dolphins for human language cognition, "Wading into the waters of language, culture, and reality", for the Distinguished Speakers Series through the State University of New York at New Paltz. Likewise, he has been honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award, and a McMillian Drives You to Succeed Award.
