Elevations RTC Stresses Finding the Perfect Group Fit for Every Student

Elevations RTC is spending the extra time and money to ensure students are placed in the correct groups for learning.

SALT LAKE CITY, UT, October 27, 2020 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Residential treatment center Elevations RTC strongly focuses on the effectiveness of group work and proper scheduling methods to maximize efficiency. It is one of the reasons why they have built up a reputation as one of the best residential treatment centers in the country.

With COVID-19 changing the way that many educational programs are doing business these days, the stress of working in smaller groups is even more critical. Elevations RTC is taking it one step further by not only putting kids in groups but taking the extra time always to get the best fit.

It takes up a good amount of time early on with the students, but it can make a massive difference in results. Elevations RTC has witnessed the difference in quality groups, well before it became the trendier move in other classrooms.

Shrinking group sizes

A typical range of groups at Elevations RTC is anywhere from 10 to 16 students. They are divided up as well as possible based on a variety of tests issued by the staff. Student observation also goes on to understand better how they act in different settings, what type of interests they might have, and more. Finding groups that make the most sense for every individual is crucial since this is the core group every student interacts with daily.

The goal is to create a community feel with the entire campus, but smaller group sizes during learning time can provide a much more customized experience for students. They feel like their voice is heard in the classroom a little more, and they are capable of asking any questions without being lost in the shuffle. Smaller groups also allow teachers to slow down if it seems like a few kids are lagging or speed up depending on performance. In larger class sizes without proper division, a few students run the risk of being lost in the shuffle because they can't keep up with everyone else.

Why community matters in this setting

Students enrolling in Elevations RTC come from many different backgrounds. The one constant is that most of them have dealt with some acceptance issues in the past. When they are at Elevations RTC, they can feel much more at ease since everyone has dealt with their own struggles in trying to get back on track.

What ends up happening is most students are much more confident from the very beginning in asking questions and getting involved. There is no room for them to hide in the classroom since the groups are so small. They also get a sense of meaning and responsibility since everyone in the community receives weekly tasks to contribute. These tasks range in levels of responsibility and add another layer of importance to students wanting to feel like they matter within a community.

Staying safe or in small groups

Having small groups in place at Elevations RTC helps reduce the level of concern from parents during a pandemic. Although every student is protected inside the campus bubble to reduce the risk of the virus in the first place, keeping them in smaller groups during school hours makes it easier to isolate any health problems whatsoever. The staff participated in training to better identify any troubling symptoms shown from children, whether it is related to COVID-19 or anything else that is contagious.

If a student is showing symptoms, they will be assessed by our medical team and if deemed necessary they will go through further testing and wear a mask and social distance for the time being. Elevations RTC is taking every illness seriously this year, and they believe that the setup provides one of the safest places for students to learn in today's challenging world.
