Dr. Marcos-Marin has been endorsed by Marquis Who's Who as a leader in the fields of linguistics and higher education

MADRID, SPAIN, February 25, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Francisco A. Marcos-Marin with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Marcos-Marin celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Now retired, Dr. Marcos-Marin earned the distinguished title of a professor emeritus at the University of Texas at San Antonio, having taught Hispanic linguistics on campus until his retirement in 2018. He previously taught at the University of Rome, where he garnered expertise as a professor for three years. Likewise, Dr. Marcos-Marin worked at the Institute of Cervantes in Spain as an academic director for two years.

Resolving to pursue a career in linguistics after completing his undergraduate studies, Dr. Marcos-Marin became intrigued by the Latin and Arabic languages. Since that time, he has enjoyed studying various cultures. Among them, Dr. Marcos-Marin particularly enjoyed conducting research on the Mediterranean cultures between the fifth and tenth centuries, such as Arabic and Ibero-Romance.

Among his most notable achievements, Dr. Marcos-Marin is most proud of the collaboration he shared with Dr. Faulhaber at the University of California at Berkeley, alongside whom he focused his attention on a digital archive of Spanish manuscripts and texts, the "Archivo Digital de Manuscritos y Textos Españoles," which was published the early 1990s. It was the first time in history that text and images were offered electronically with the assistance of the Quincentennial Agency in Madrid, UC Berkeley, the University of Wisconsin at Madison, the National Library of Spain and the University Complutense in Madrid. As a result, this work put much of the information into the hands of language scholars.

A talented writer, Dr. Marcos-Marin published "Humanidades Hispánicas" in 2018. He also released poetry works in "Lectura de su pluma" and "Odysseos." Apart from his books, he has contributed a variety of articles on behalf of academic journals. Dr. Marcos-Marin has notably written extensively about the origins of the digital humanities and computers in Spain.

A dedicated community advocate, Dr. Marcos-Marin has been a member of the Rock Art Foundation, a nonprofit organization, since 2005. He has also been involved with the Meadows Museum in Dallas. Among his professional involvements, Dr. Marcos-Marin has been affiliated as a member of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese and as a member and former executive committee member of the Societas Linguistica Europaea. He is also an honorary fellow of the Association of Marocaine Comparative Literature and a corresponding fellow of the Academia Argentina de Letras and the Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española.

Dr. Marcos-Marin was born in Madrid. He obtained a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Complutense in 1969 and later received certification in neurolinguistic studies from the Universidad Autonoma in Madrid in 1983. Well regarded for his subsequent accomplishments, he was bestowed with the Premio Nacional Fin Carrera Award from the Government of Spain in 1968, a Ministry of Education Award in Spain in 1969 and a Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander Von Humboldt Stiftung in 2004. Dr. Marcos-Marin also received a fellowship at the Institute Hispano-Árabe de Cultura in 1981 and the Duques De Soria Foundation in 2000, as well as grant funding from Fundación Juan March, Spanish Social Security or the European Uniom between 1974 and 1997.
