Donald Woodward Lauded for Excellence in Water Quality and Conservation

Mr. Woodward retired from the National Resources Conservation Service as a hydraulic engineer



    GAITHERSBURG, MD, April 02, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Donald Woodward has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Driven to pursue a career in service to the community, Mr. Woodward obtained a formal education at the University of Idaho, earning a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1959 and a Master of Science in civil engineering in 1962. Upon his graduation, he worked as a hydraulic engineer with the National Resources Conservation Service for decades until his retirement after the turn of the century. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Woodward has been affiliated with the American Society of Civil Engineering, with which he is a fellow.

Throughout his storied career, Mr. Woodward has authored and co-authored a number of publications, including "Curve Number Hydrology: State of the Practice," "The Complacent-Violent Runoff: A Departure from Traditional Behavior" and "Restorative Justice is a Lot of Work – But It's Worth It". He additionally penned "Methodology for Calculating Water Quantity and Quality Changes in CITYgreen Software," which was presented at the 2005 Watershed Management Conference. In conjunction with his work in surface hydrology, watershed molding and management, and water quality, Mr. Woodward has greatly contributed to his community, serving as the president, dean and vice dean of Keese School.

Even though his career was filled with highlights, Mr. Woodward is incredibly proud of refining the process that the Natural Resources Conservation Service has utilized for the estimation of rainfall and the runoff for rainfall in ungauged areas. Additionally, he has had the opportunity to pursue international studies in Gambia, Poland, Peru, China and the United States, which has been a great professional honor. For his outstanding work in the field, he was recognized with the Honor for Helping in Hydrology Program at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences in 2003 and accepted the National Arid Land Hydraulic Engineering Award from the American Society of Civil Engineering in 2014. In the coming years, Mr. Woodward intends to continue consulting in the area of curve number hydrology.

Mr. Woodward is a Fellow of American Society of Society of Civil Engineers.
