Dr. Monk is a respected engineer currently affiliated with NXP Semiconductors, a publicly traded, global semiconductor company headquartered in The Netherlands. A large organization with offices in over 30 different countries, he presently works at its Chandler, AZ location, serving as the vice president and general manager of its motion sensor product line, since 2015.

Dr. Monk started his professional career in the field as an electronic packaging engineer for Rockwell International in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He further flourished as the package development engineer for Motorola in Phoenix and as a research and development manager for Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS). Additionally, he gained valuable experience in academia as a research and teaching assistant at the University of California Berkeley between 1989 and 1993. To better support his profession, Dr. Monk has been active with the MEMS and Sensor Industry Group Governing Council from 2010 through 2020, including involvement as its chairman from 2014 to 2016.

Among other important endeavors, Dr. Monk has become a highly regarded scientist. He has notably authored or co-authored over 50 conference papers, approximately a dozen refereed journal articles, and a book chapter in his area of expertise. Likewise, Dr. Monk has secured over 15 patents over the years.

Born in Illinois, Dr. Monk initially pursued an education at the University of Iowa, from which he obtained a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering in 1989. Shortly thereafter, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in chemical engineering at the University of California Berkeley in 1993. Dr. Monk concluded his academic efforts with a Master of Business Administration at Arizona State University in 1998.

A senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Dr. Monk is also a member of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, the Materials Research Society, the International Society of Hybrid Microelectronics, The Electrochemical Society, the American Institute for Chemical Engineers, and the International Electric and Electronics Engineers. He additionally participated on the International Committee on Transducers from 2013 to 2019, and as the Technical and General Chairs for the Solid-State Sensors, Actuators and Microsystems Workshops in Hilton Head, S.C. in 2012 and 2014, respectively. Dr. Monk has thrived with the Transducers Research Foundation as a member since 2014 and treasurer since 2018.

Dr. Monk was notably recognized by the University of California Berkeley with an Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award in 1991. He was also honored by Motorola with a Manufacturing Excellence Award 1997 and a Performance Excellence Award in 2000. A celebrated Marquis listee, Dr. Monk has been highlighted in the third edition of Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
