Marquis Who's Who Honors Nicholas Donnell Ward with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

An accomplished listee, Mr. Ward celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Now semi-retired, Mr. Ward has spent more than five decades as a practicing attorney focusing on trusts, estates and fiduciary litigation. Having garnered a laudable reputation as the principal of private practice for more a decade, he continues to work on some residual work for clients, while looking ahead to the future. During the course of his career, Mr. Ward worked as an associate for Hamilton and Hamilton PC after earning his law degree, where he was later promoted to a partner in 1973. After more than a decade, he represented several other small firms as a partner before forming his practice in 1988. He also served of counsel for Hewes, Morella, Gelband and Lamberton between 1994 and 1996.

Mr. Ward's professional journey included activity with numerous committees, including the advisory committee on the Superior Court Rules of Probate and Fiduciary Procedure and the American Law Institute-American Bar Association's Legal Problems of Museum Administration faculty and planning committee. He was also a consultant for the Register of Wills and spent several years in the classroom teaching law courses at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. and paralegal courses at the University of Maryland in College Park and Georgetown University. Additionally, Mr. Ward was a faculty member at the Museum Management Institute and the Seminar for Historical Administration.

A prolific author, Mr. Ward has contributed legal articles to various journals, some of which have been cited by several appellate and other courts. He also invested time into theater writing, authoring a play, "A Difficulty in Edgefield: The Booth Toney Gun Fight in 1878," for the Edgefield County Historical Society in 2021. Moreover, Mr. Ward performed two record albums, including "Come Dance with Me in Ireland" in 1982 and "The Roast Beef of Old England" in 1983.

A passionate civil advocate, Mr. Ward spent nearly 20 years on the Friends of Music at the Smithsonian steering committee between 1986 and 2005. He was also an officer for the American Society of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem and was an annual corporate member of the Children's Hospital of D.C. for a decade, beginning in 1971. Among other initiatives, Mr. Ward was active on the Research Foundation of the Bar Association of D.C. as its president.

Following in the footsteps of his father, a labor lawyer and general counsel for the Carpenters Union, Mr. Ward attended Columbia College, from which he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1963. Continuing his studies, he attained a Bachelor of Laws at Georgetown University in 1966. Mr. Ward subsequently enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve, serving to the rank of a staff sergeant of counterintelligence between 1966 and 1972. He has been admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, the Supreme Court of the United States and the U.S. Tax Court.

Mr. Ward has served as the president of several professional organizations, including the Barristers and the National Gavel Society. He is also fellow of both the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, is a former secretary-treasurer of the American Counsel Association, a former chairperson of the charitable committee of the real property and probate section of the American Bar Association, and a former treasurer of the Bar Association of D.C. Among multiple other affiliations, Mr. Ward has been active with several military related organizations, including the Order of Indian Wars in the U.S., the Military Society of the Stars and Bars and the Robert E. Lee Camp of Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Recently, Mr. Ward received a Certificate of Appreciation from the estates and trust section of the D.C. Bar. Other recognitions to his credit include a Samuel Green Award, a Special Recognition Award from the American Bar Association for Will and Testamentary Trust Forms and, among others, a Marvin E. Preis Award from the D.C. Bar Association. Additionally, Mr. Ward has been named as an AV-Preeminent Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell and is a celebrated Marquis listee who has been cited in approximately 20 editions of Who's Who in Finance and Industry, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law and Who's Who in the East.
