Founded in 1975, the medical practice boasts a wide range of remedies that enable low vision patients to regain their vision, to enjoy a higher quality of life and achieve independence. Specializing in such maladies as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, Stargardt's disease, albinism, stroke, trauma, Leber's disease, cone-rod dystrophy, and retinitis pigmentosa, Dr. Azman initially helmed an optometry practice in Timonium, Maryland, prior to establishing Low Vision Specialists of Maryland and Virginia.

Most remarkably, he is responsible for inventing the ColorCorrection system, an optical color correction system that has enabled color blind clients to enter professions that had previously been unreachable for them due to their condition. He has traveled extensively throughout the world and offered his services to clients as far afield as Australia and Thailand. Well regarded for his warm and compassionate bedside manner, Dr. Azman's practice was recognized among the Top 10 Best Practices in the United States for excellence in eye care in 2019, and was previously noted as an Exceptional Business of Maryland through the Warfield Business Record in 1995. He has also received numerous commendations, certificates and citations from the city of Baltimore, and from the state of Maryland throughout the course of his career.
Outside of his primary career endeavors, Dr. Azman notably served as a researcher for numerous health product companies, including Bausch & Lomb, Polymer Technologies, Ciba Vision, Vision Pharmaceuticals, Varilux and others. Moreover, he has delivered guest lectures in a wide variety of settings, including nursing homes, PTA meetings and senior citizen centers, and appeared as a guest on local television programs regarding eye care. Civically, Dr. Azman also excelled for eight years on the Maryland Board of Examiners in Optometry, over which he presided for two.
Throughout his 46 years in practice, Dr. Azman enjoyed helping the underserved population by providing free eyecare and eyeglasses, including giving his time to provide free vision and glaucoma screening, and low vision screenings. Dr. Azman's greatest honor has been providing free eyecare to many of his colleagues and their family members who have retired. Dr. Azman, together with his brother, Dr. Irwin Azman, has provided scholarships to two students each year at the University of Alabama, School of Optometry, and Illinois College of Optometry, and has also donated a fully equipped examination room to each school.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Azman pursued a formal education at the University of Maryland, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1970. He subsequently continued his studies at the University of Alabama, where he attained a Bachelor of Science in physiological optics in 1974, as well as a Doctor of Optometry in 1975. Eminently qualified in his field, Dr. Azman was licensed to practice optometry in the states of Maryland and Virginia during the same year.
To remain aware of developments affecting low vision and color vision, Dr. Azman has maintained his professional affiliation with a number of pertinent organizations. In addition to his continuing membership with the International Academy of Low Vision Specialists, he is the former president of the Maryland Board of Examiners in Optometry. Likewise, he has been a member of the American Optometric Association, the Maryland Optometric Association, the Greater Baltimore Optometric Society, the National Eye Research Foundation and the National Academy of Sports Vision Interlens, among many others.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Azman plans to remain active in his current profession for as long as he is able, finding no greater joy than in helping his patients reach their fullest potential. Outside of his vocational circles, he enjoys such diversions as skiing, softball, football, sky diving and white water rafting. A devout adherent of his Jewish faith, Dr. Azman is married to his loving wife, Ruthy, and together they are the proud parents of four sons, of which their youngest, Dr. Benjamin Azman, has followed in Dr. Azman's footsteps and joined the practice. Dr. Azman and Ruthy have been blessed with 14 beautiful grandchildren.
