Al Hall Celebrated for Dedication to the Fields of Education and Writing

Mr. Hall lends years of educational expertise into his current work as a writer and poet



Mr. Hall received the Juneteenth Award and the highest USDA Honor Award for sustained commitment to excellence from Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy.

    ALEXANDRIA, VA, July 30, 2021 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Al Hall has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in language arts and social studies from Jackson State College (now University), Mr. Hall began his career in education as a teacher at N.H. Pilate High School in Newton, Mississippi. After teaching one year, he completed two years of service in the U.S. Army in Garmisch, Germany. He has done graduate work in English at the University of Connecticut and obtained a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Supervision from Western New Mexico University.

Mr. Hall subsequently excelled in his career with the U.S. Government where he started as a teacher and advanced to educational supervisor at a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service Job Corp Center between 1965 and 1970. Backed by his considerable expertise, he found additional success during more than 30 years with USDA Forest Service as international training officer and as program manager for historically Black colleges and universities. Though his career has been filled with highlights, he is incredibly proud of working with people from all over the world. Mr. Hall received the Juneteenth Award and the highest USDA Honor Award for sustained commitment to excellence from Secretary of Agriculture Mike Espy. In 2012, the State of Mississippi House of Representatives approved "House Resolution No. 108 commending Mississippi native Al Hall as an African American poet."

Mr. Hall was named USDA poet laureate and throughout the latter half of his career, he has fostered a love of poetry. He currently channels his understanding breath of knowledge and life experiences into his work as an author and poet at his company, A & L Associates. Over the years, he has written hundreds of poems and published five books of poetry, including: There's Nothing Going Wrong With Your Head, It's Trimmed in White If Color Makes Any Difference to You, Poetic Healing: That Unforgettable Tuesday Morning, Give Me My Forty Acres Because I Know My Mule Is Dead and Let's Get Together on Earth Before Taking Off on the Road to Heaven.

After retiring from USDA, Mr. Hall served for several years as chair of partnership development and as a member of the Advisory Council for the Forestry and Natural Resources program at Tuskegee University. Outside of his primary responsibilities, he is a founding member of the National Museum of African American History and Culture. He has been or is presently affiliated with the International Society of Poets, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the Washington, DC Chapter of the Jackson State University Alumni Association. Devoted to his community, Mr. Hall has also flourished as deacon at the Historic Alfred Street Baptist Church and contributed time and resources to the men's ministry, the local homeless shelter and Brother's Keeper. For his professional excellence, he has been honored on many occasions, having accepted an Outstanding Christian Ministry Award for 15 years as Sunday School Director at Braddock Baptist Church. He received a Leadership Award for his role in planning the Forest Service National Diversity Conference.
