For nearly 35 years, Mr. Keating has flourished as a physical education instructor at Shasta College. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Jamestown College in 1979, he earned a Master of Arts in health, physical education and recreation from the University of North Dakota in 1986. Mr. Keating was subsequently recruited by Shasta College, which is a California-based community college that is known for its strong athletic programs.
From 1987 until 1997, Mr. Keating also found tremendous success as the coach of Shasta College's men's basketball team. During this period, he guided the team to three conference championships. In recognition of his success as an instructor as well as a student mentor, Mr. Keating has received the Faculty Appreciation Award from the Shasta College Student Senate on six occasions. He has also been selected as the Golden Valley Conference Coach of the Year four times. Mr. Keating attributes his remarkable career to his desire to leave a lasting and positive impact on each student. He regularly reminds them that his door is always open, should they ever need his advice.
