With nearly 50 years of experience in the field of dental hygiene, Dr. Beaver has achieved professional success through her involvement in dental hygiene education. In addition to dental hygiene education, Dr. Beaver has held positions in public health, research, and clinical dental hygiene. She has been very active in the American Dental Hygienists' Association as District VIII Trustee, as well as President and Speaker of the House of the Illinois Dental Hygienists' Association. Dr. Beaver also has held various committee positions in the American Association of Dental Education. Most recently Dr. Beaver was Director of the Dental Hygiene Program at Fox College and Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Periodontics at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. In the past, she has been the Director of Dental Hygiene Programs at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Kennedy-King College, and Sanford-Brown College. Dr. Beaver also has served as an independent contractor in oral health presentations.
Dr. Beaver's exemplary performance in the field was a result of her academic journey. She graduated from the University of Iowa with a certificate in dental hygiene and a BA in General Science. She then enrolled in the University of Iowa's dental hygiene and education program where she received her MS degree. To continue her education, she earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Community Heath from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Eminently qualified in her field, Dr. Beaver's preferred courses to teach are ethics, local anesthesia and nitrous-oxide/oxygen sedation, health promotion and special needs.
Well regarded for her scholarly achievements, Dr. Beaver has presented locally, nationally, and internationally. Her research includes participation as a consultant and examiner for the SOL: Study of Hispanic Health. From this study she has been co-author of a number of journal articles. A highlight of her career was participating in several dental mission trips to Mexico with dental hygiene and dental students. However, the most important part of her life has been her family: three successful children, Brian, Brenna and Bianca, as well as their spouses, five grandchildren, her sister and brother-in-law, and her parents.
