An accomplished listee, Dr. Swigart celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. Dr. Swigart is a retired tenured professor of English, archaeological scholar, and award-winning writer and poet who has enjoyed a very diverse career. After college, he began teaching in 1972 at San Jose State University as an associate professor of English, teaching on campus for 34 years. Toward the end of his teaching career, Dr. Swigart became a visiting scholar researching and writing about ancient societies at Stanford University Archaeology Center from 2004 to 2012.

Besides his scholarly contributions, Dr. Swigart has worked as a script writer for computer games, as a reporter for The Cincinnati Enquirer and, and among other roles, as a technical writer for Apple. He was also a research affiliate for the Institute for the Future, a non-profit think tank in Palo Alto, California, where he was responsible for story, scenario and report writing from 1993 to 2006.

Dr. Swigart published his first novel in 1977, titled "Little America." The book was succeeded by "A.K.A./A Cosmic Fable," which was nominated for a Best Novel Award by the British Science Fiction Association. Dr. Swigart has published 16 books in all, including 14 novels, a business book and a translated prose poem, as well as approximately 100 poems. His most recent book is titled "Mixed Harvest: Stories from the Human Past." Released in 2019, it is a collection of short stories tracing the development of human society from roughly 60,000 years before the present (kya) until the emergence of cities in Mesopotamia, that is, through the adoption of agriculture (what he calls the Sedentary Divide). The book notably received a Nautilus Gold Award. Dr. Swigart has written and been published in various professional magazines as well, including the South Carolina Review, the New York Quarterly and the Atlantic Monthly.

Enjoying the opportunity to play his part in the community, Dr. Swigart was a founding board member for the Electronic Literature Organization from 1999 to 2004, a non-profit founded in Chicago to promote and facilitate the writing, publishing and reading of electronic literature. He was also a founding board member for Kids International Dental Services from 2009 to 2013 and was active on the board of directors for Lick-Wilmerding High School in San Francisco from 2000 to 2002.

Dr. Swigart studied at Princeton University where he received a Bachelor of Arts in English. He later attended the State University of New York, where he completed a Doctor of Philosophy in comparative literature in 1972.

To support his writing initiatives, Dr. Swigart is a member of several significant professional organizations, including Mystery Writers of America, the Science Fiction Writers of America, the Author's Guild and the Writers Guild of the American West. A celebrated Marquis listee, he has been cited in the third edition of Who's Who in Entertainment and the 22nd edition of Who's Who in the West.
