Background

The EarthLifter Tool was nine years in development and prototyping. In 2012 the company founder, out of necessity from a significant hand injury and having studied Human Factors engineering, solved many digging issues with an ancient prime tool. The shovel and garden fork are the only large manual digging tools from that time still offered today. Both require two hands, involve precarious spinal postures, and work against gravity. Knowing that potatoes needed to be lifted from soil the inventor and company founder, Neil Bevilacqua, envisioned what the optimum geometry was to eliminate these difficulties. Over time and effort he created a tool that can be used with one hand, eliminates improper bending and twisting and uses the forces of gravity to lift with minimal effort. The EarthLifter Tool, a New Class of Tool, was born.

The innovative design of The Earth Lifter Tool achieves a minimum of a three-to-one weight ratio that allows nearly effortless lifting of plants and weeds. This unique fork with a special fulcrum controls the lifting of delicate vegetables, tubers and shrub root balls which can all be removed in a gentle manner.
