Driven to help others through missionary work, Dr. Okafor excels today as the president of the Madonna Renewal Center and as the chief executive officer of IHM Sisters Philanthropic Development and Mission Office. At Madonna Renewal, women gain assistance in traversing vocational, college enrollment and apartment placement programs. In her work with IHM Sisters, Dr. Okafor also raises money to support the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, Tanzania and several other developing countries.
Prior to obtaining her current roles, Dr. Okafor gained valuable professional expertise as a licensed clinical therapist for FHN Family Counseling Center, a family services counselor for St. Gregory Retreat Center and as a religious sister with the Catholic Church. Over the years, she has furthered her knowledge through several degrees, including a bachelor's degree in theology and a Master of Arts in pastoral communication from the Catholic Institute of West Africa, a Doctor of Philosophy in Pastoral Studies/Practical Theology from Luther Seminary and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel University.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Okafor aligns herself with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, the Illinois Marriage and Family Therapy, the Association of Practical Theology, the Catholic Theological Society of America and the Association of American Colleges and Universities. Due to her outstanding work in the field, she was named as an international fellow through the Association of American University Women. Looking toward the future, Dr. Okafor aims to finish remodeling a building for the Madonna Renewal Center and oversee the organization's emergence as a center for women empowerment.
