Inspired by his uncle, who was a physician, Dr. Kaushal was driven from a young age to help others. After graduating from high school, his friend introduced him to the field of psychiatry, which further encouraged him to pursue a career in the field. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Laurentian University in 1999, Dr. Kaushal obtained a Doctor of Medicine at Universidad Iberoamericana and completed an internship, residency and fellowship through Louisiana State University's Health Sciences Center.
Drawing upon his extensive education, Dr. Kaushal currently excels as a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist for Otis R. Bowen Center for Human Services. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, he is affiliated with the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Psychiatry Association and the Indiana Psychiatric Society. He is the co-author of a chapter entitled "The Treatment of Dually Diagnosed Individuals with Sleep Disturbances and Intellectual Disabilities" in the Handbook of Dual Diagnosis.
Over the years, Dr. Kaushal has also contributed to a number of publications, posters and presentations, including "Use of Homocysteine Level in Psychiatry," "Increasing Resilience to Decrease Risk of Suicide" and "Naturalistic Study of Screening for Eating Disorders Among Psychiatric Patients."
For his outstanding work in the field, Dr. Kaushal received a Western University admission scholarship in 1995 and an academic scholarship to Laurentian University in 1998. He was likewise presented with Psychiatry Scholar Awards from Louisiana State University's department of psychiatry in 2016 and 2019. Within the coming years, Dr. Kaushal intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career prior to ultimately pursuing a leadership role.
