While serving in the U.S. Army from 1991 to 1998, Ms. Howard obtained her bachelor's degree at Hawaii Pacific University. In 2001, she earned a master's degree in social work from the University of South Carolina. Furthermore, Ms. Howard is licensed as a clinical social worker in North Carolina as well as an independent social worker in clinical practice in South Carolina.
For over 25 years, Ms. Howard found success as a social worker for a variety of industries. Throughout her career, she gained experience while employed with the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice, the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, the Lexington Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the Womack Army Medical Center's emergency room. She was also appointed as Lead Clinical Social Worker for the U.S. Army Medical Activity Department of Behavioral Health's Warrior Transition Unit and as the Chief of the Fort Jackson, SC Family Advocacy Program with the U.S. Department of Defense. A trusted voice in her field, Ms. Howard was also recruited as an Adjunct Instructor for the University of South Carolina College of Social Work program.
Since 2016, Ms. Howard has excelled as the Senior Program Manager for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, an agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. In this role, she engages in public relations, promotes public health services, conducts presentations about the Federal Bureau of Prisons and recruits medical, law enforcement and administrative professionals. With extensive expertise in clinical social work for individuals, groups, families, children and organizations, Ms. Howard attributes her success to having been able to build relationships with diverse populations throughout her career.
Having contributed enormously to various industries in the United States, Ms. Howard has been presented with a multitude of accolades. She has been the recipient of the Response Service Award, the Crisis Response Service Award and the National Emergency Preparedness Service Award from the U.S. Public Health Service, in addition to awards for her volunteerism. She is incredibly proud to have been recognized with the Dept. of Defense Meritorious Service Medal by the United States Department of Defense and the Public Health Service Presidential Unit Citation for her contributions to the Ebola response in 2015. In her retirement, Ms. Howard intends to write grants, build nonprofit organizations, provide therapy, teach and open a consulting business aimed towards helping small businesses.
