Ms. Cogane completed coursework in psychology at Adelphi University and in dance at Indiana University. She later earned a Bachelor of Arts in telecommunications from Indiana University and a Master of Arts in dance and higher education from New York University in 1993. She has further obtained multiple certifications in dance education, including for professional classical ballet, rhythmic analysis and modern dance. Prior to becoming a dance educator, Ms. Cogane began her career as a research assistant to the senior research director on international accounts for Wells Rich Greene Inc.
Ms. Cogane initially worked as a teacher of ballet and jazz dance at Baruch College in 1985. She then taught ballet and pre-ballet for the West Side YMCA and a ballet for the Montessori Family School in 1986. Moreover, she was recruited on the arts faculty of ballet and jazz dance for the Stern College for Women at Yeshiva University until 2008 and excelled as the owner and artistic director for the Karen-Cherie Cogane School of Ballet until 2011. She was additionally active as a ballet teacher for the Ethical Culture School from 1985 to 1990. In 1992, Ms. Cogane served as a performing arts newspaper columnist for Actors Resource Newspaper until continuing her teaching career at the Abraham Joshua Heschel School in 1993.
Since 2013, Ms. Cogane has found much success as a writer. She has authored 92 different stories, poems and scripts, including "The Poodles of Park Avenue," which was published in 2015. The story, which is available for purchase from her directly, was inspired by the poodle she had growing who was very highfalutin and brilliant. Also continuing her dance career, Ms. Cogane has danced ballet and jazz for productions of "West Side Story" and "Funny Girl" at the Amityville Community Theatre.
Having always been passionate about dancing, Ms. Cogane credits her success to the support that she received from her parents throughout her career. She notably studied ballet from ages seven to 17 under Andre Eglevsky. After a prolific career of performing ballet and teaching, she has decided to focus more on writing more stories, poems and scripts while also focusing on her efforts as a dancer. Ms. Cogane is also prolific as an animal advocate and hopes to continue to dedicate her time volunteering and donating to several shelters and animal foundations in her community.
