LATHAM, NY, May 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sharon Alger-Mayer has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts in biology at The State University of New York at Plattsburgh, Dr. Alger-Mayer graduated with a Doctor of Medicine from the University at Buffalo's Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Inspired to specialize in eating disorders by a preventative medicine cardiologist professor, she completed an internship in family medicine at the University of Rochester, a residency in family medicine through University's Strong Memorial Hospital, and fellowships at Albany Medical College and the National Institute of Health.

During the early years of her career, Dr. Alger-Mayer worked with the New York Department of Health's Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders, the Albany Medical Center and St. Peter's Health Partners. She also found success as an assistant professor of medicine at Albany Medical College. Over the years, she also gained valuable expertise at the aforementioned college as the Howard-Young chair in clinical nutrition and as an associate professor of medicine. Backed by her professional expertise, Dr. Alger-Mayer currently excels as the medical director of Northeast Comprehensive Care Center and a professor of medicine at Albany Medical College.

Licensed through the American Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, the American Clinical Board of Nutrition and the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Alger-Mayer is affiliated with the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the Academy for Eating Disorders, The Obesity Society and The Institute for Functional Medicine just to name a few. Outside of her primary responsibilities, she contributes to others as an advisory board member for the Dietetic Intern Program at Russell Sage College and the co-director of nutrition curriculum for medical students at Albany Medical College.

Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Alger-Mayer has been featured in more than 500 Castle Connolly articles. Even though her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Alger-Mayer is incredibly proud of accepting the grant from the New York Department of Health's Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders. The grant was established by Senator Joseph Bruno because his granddaughter suffered from an eating disorder. Looking ahead, Dr. Alger-Mayer intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career.

Dr. Alger-Mayer is married to William Mayer III. They have two sons, Christopher William Mayer; Daniel Harrison Mayer. Christopher is a software engineer at Jeppesen, a Boeing company.
