Dr. Go is a distinguished professor of medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) who has garnered more than five decades of expertise in his profession. In addition to teaching and mentoring junior faculty and fellows, he has served in various administrative roles and has conducted extensive research in his field. Hired in 1988 as a professor and executive chair of the department of medicine, Dr. Go also became director of nutrition education, associate director of the clinical nutrition research unit, associate center director of the UCLA Center for Human Nutrition and co-director of the UCLA Agi Hirshberg Center for Pancreatic Diseases.

Prior to being recruited by UCLA, Dr. Go was the director of the division of digestive diseases and nutrition at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, from 1985 to 1988. He also spent more than 15 years at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota, as an assistant, associate and full professor of medicine between 1972 and 1988. Furthermore, Dr. Go worked in Canada as a research associate at the Banting & Best Department of Medical Research, University of Toronto, between 1969 and 1971.

An innovator in pancreatic research, Dr. Go's early endeavors involved pioneering work that included investigating the human exocrine and endocrine pancreatic function and the role of nutrients and gastrointestinal hormones in its secretion and regulation. More recently, his research focused on the phytochemical mechanism of action and its role in pancreatic disease via a molecular biology and metabolomics technique. Among other contributions to the field, Dr. Go was responsible for establishing the Mayo Clinic Gastrointestinal Hormone Radio-Immunoassay Lab and the NCI Mayo Immunodiagnostic Bank for biomarker validation for various malignancies. Much of his research has notably been funded by the NIH.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, Dr. Go was active on numerous professional committees. Among them, he chaired the National Cancer Institute's National Pancreatic Cancer Program at the Organ Systems Coordinator Center, chaired the steering committee for the International Symposium on Gastrointestinal Hormones and chaired the research program committee, American Institute of Cancer Research.

Widely published in his area of expertise, Dr. Go has served as the co-editor for six textbooks, as the editor-in-chief for Pancreas, a peer-reviewed journal that he founded in 1986, and as an associate editor and member of the editorial board for numerous other scholarly journals. Furthermore, Dr. Go has contributed more than 390 articles and over 460 abstracts in various professional medical journals and 100 chapters to books.
Dr. Go achieved an Associate of Arts and a Doctor of Medicine at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila, Philippines, in 1958 and 1963, respectively. He subsequently completed a residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, between 1965 and 1969.

To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Dr. Go has been aligned as a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), the American Association of Cancer Research, the American College of Physician Executives, the American Association of Clinical Investigation and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Go is also recognized as an elected fellow of the American College of Physicians, as a founding member and former two-time president of the American Pancreatic Association and as a founding member of the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society.

To commemorate his accomplishments, Dr. Go was selected for the Donald C. Balfour Research Award (1964) and the Distinguished Alumni Award (2002) from the Mayo Foundation, received a Senior Executive Service Award from the Department of Health and Human Services in 1987, an Alimurong Lecturer Award (1988) and outstanding alumni in academic medicine award (2013) from the University Santo Tomas Alumni Association and an Apolinario Mabini Award from the Association of Philippine Physicians in America in 1989. Additionally, Dr. Go was the recipient of several lectureship awards and received a Lifetime Achievement Award (2001) and Distinguished Service Award (2021) from the American Pancreatic Association. In addition, Dr. Go was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from the North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society (2019), Legacy Award from the National Pancreas Foundation (2021) and the Distinguished Mentor Award from the American Gastroenterological Association (2021).
