PARKERSBURG, WV, July 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sara Ann Young, RN, BSN, MSN, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing inspiration from the example of her mother, a nurse in her own right, Ms. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Virginia University in 1970. Upon graduating, she joined Camden Clark Memorial Hospital as a staff nurse, and subsequently advanced to become the head nurse of labor and delivery in 1972. Driven to expand upon her expertise in the field, Ms. Young received a Master of Science in Nursing from the Catholic University of America and honed her skills as a staff nurse for the George Washington University Medical Center.

An internationally board certified lactation consultant (1994-2014), Ms. Young worked as an obstetrics-gynecology clinical nurse specialist at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut, where she remained for more than 30 years before retiring in 2011. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she has aligned herself with the American Nurses Association and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses, through which she received the Wyeth Laboratory plaque in 1989.

Throughout the course of her career, Ms. Young has achieved much, including coordinating the efforts of the Department of Women's Health at Hartford Hospital to earn distinction as the first baby-friendly hospital in the state of Connecticut. In light of her outstanding body of work, she has been honored many times, receiving the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award and the Marquis Who's Who Humanitarian Award. While her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud of her work at Hartford Hospital and having her mother present for a talk she gave in 2010 to other professionals on the hospital's journey to becoming the first baby friendly hospital in the state of Connecticut. Looking toward the future, Ms. Young intends to enjoy her retirement while continuing to advocate for quality patient care.
