For 31 years, Ms. Jimenez-Ito has served as a dedicated high school educator in the Oxnard Union High School District. She brings impressive academic credentials to her appointment, including a master's degree from Azusa Pacific University (APU), with a specialty in curriculum and instruction, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish education and literature and a teaching credential from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
During those 31 years, Ms. Jimenez-Ito has been a club advisor, a union representative, an advanced placement teacher, and a department chair who served on numerous committees as the need arose. This was done while raising 2 children who are now educators as well.
Exceptional training and a passion for working with young students are at the core of Ms. Jimenez-Ito's professional success. She approaches mentoring from a foundational desire to serve others, which also informs her efforts to help those in need. In fact, in 2018, she founded The Caring Closet and partnered with family and friends to provide goods and services to the community, including furniture, clothes, shoes and items related to personal hygiene. During the pandemic, The Caring Closet also installed pop-up locations or delivered to provide free items for children and families in the region.
Ms. Jimenez-Ito aims to persist in her humanitarian efforts and continue teaching Spanish and Senior Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), which is a national program aimed at facilitating college enrollment for high school graduates. She will continue to provide hygiene items, clothes and school supplies with the help of the school community. Ms. Jimenez-Ito plans to retire from Oxnard Union in the near future; however, her ultimate goal is to explore opportunities to teach abroad or assume a college-level professorship position.
