Accumulating decades of experience in his field, Mr. McGregor has been aligned with Aquarion Water Company in Bridgeport, Connecticut, since 1985. Hired to serve as the executive vice president, he subsequently served as the chief executive officer from 1990 to 1995 and, since 1988, was instrumental as both the president and director through 1998. Additionally, Mr. McGregor served as the company chairperson from 1994 through 1997.
Aquarion Water Company is a public water supply company that serves approximately 700,000 customers throughout the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Recognized as the largest investor-owned water utility company in New England, Aquarion has been in business since 1857.
Mr. McGregor began his career in the early 1960s in law as an associate at Reed Smith Shaw & McClay in Pittsburgh, as a general counsel for the Pay Board in Washington, D.C., and as an assistant legal adviser of economic affairs for the U.S. Department of State. Furthermore, he served as vice president of Potomac Electric Power Company in Washington, D.C., from 1972 to 1974. Mr. McGregor also held leading roles with Carey Energy Corporation in New York City and Hampton-Douglas Corporation in Bedford, New York.
In addition to his primary career objectives, Mr. McGregor was involved in politics. At the age of 28, he notably became recognized as the second youngest state senator to ever be elected to serve in Pennsylvania as a moderate Republican between 1962 and 1970. Mr. McGregor's local involvement included co-chairing Connecticut's governor-elect John Rowland's transition team, serving on the board of directors of The Barnum Museum and Mystic Aquarium, and serving on the board of directors of the Regional Plan Association's Connecticut committee.
An alumnus of Yale University, Mr. McGregor received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1956. He also achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1962 and a Doctor of Laws at Quinnipiac University in 1995. Mr. McGregor has been admitted to practice by the Supreme Court of the United States. He also served as a captain in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1959. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Mr. McGregor is a member of the American Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, and the District of Columbia Bar.
