WILMETTE, IL, September 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Manoj K. Mehta, MD, has been recognized as a 2022 Castle Connolly Top Doctor, the first time he has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only about 7 percent of the nation's licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.

A gastroenterologist, Dr. Mehta founded Endoscopy Center of the North Shore in 2015 and serves as its Medical Director.

He evaluates and treats a variety of gastrointestinal (GI) conditions and concerns. These range from inflammatory bowel disease, diverticulitis, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, and hiatal hernia to irritable bowel syndrome, chronic diarrhea and constipation, Barrett's esophagus, GI bleeding, and microbiome imbalance.

Dr. Mehta performs endoscopic procedures that include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, and small-bowel capsule endoscopy. He also offers extended esophageal pH monitoring.

As an affiliated clinician and teaching faculty member of NorthShore University HealthSystem — a teaching affiliate of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine — he is active in training gastroenterology residents and fellows, particularly in endoscopic techniques and procedures. He has lectured locally and nationally and will serve as the American College of Gastroenterology's co-chair for the annual Practice Management Summit this year.

Dr. Mehta cares for patients ages 16 and older. He performs endoscopic procedures both in his office and at Evanston Hospital.

"I have been privileged to live in the Chicago area my entire life, and have particularly enjoyed the last 20-plus years on the North Shore. I've raised four brilliant and successful kids, have gotten to know so many friends and neighbors, and have been proud to take care of a huge number of patients throughout the greater Chicago area," Dr. Mehta says. "Each and every one of them has been a learning experience, a connection, and a blessing. I make an effort to treat each patient as an individual, and I think their allegiance to me shows this has paid dividends."

Dr. Mehta understands that gastroenterology procedures, particularly colonoscopy, can be very difficult, and his goal is to make them as easy as possible for his patients.

"There is no question the preparation is hard, even though we've made great strides in making that as easy as possible. No matter what, there is fasting, laxatives, and at least one day of relative misery. The really unusual thing relative to most tests is that patients are at home doing the hard part on their own," Dr. Mehta says.

"I try to emphasize to my patients that I'm always available if they have difficulties or questions. I also reassure my patients that once they arrive for the procedure, they have done all the hard work. Our anesthesiologist makes sure the patient is completely comfortable and safe, and the entire procedure is done with the patient completely unaware. Most people wake up, feel like they have had a great nap, and are surprised to find the procedure is over."

Dr. Mehta is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is one of only a handful of physicians in the state to have achieved this designation from all three major gastroenterology societies.

He is board certified in gastroenterology.

Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.

"I am proud to have been recognized by my colleagues and patients for all the hard work I have put into taking care of people," Dr. Mehta says. "I could not have picked a better career, location, or group of referring physicians and patients. There is nothing I enjoy more!"

Dr. Mehta earned his medical degree at Rush Medical College. He completed both an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology fellowship at Rush University Medical Center.

He speaks English, Hindi, and Urdu.
