Marquis Who's Who Honors Barbara Ann McFarlin-Kosiec, PhD, with Inclusion in Who's Who in the World

An accomplished listee, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. After more than 40 years of teaching at the elementary, secondary, and college levels, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec retired in 2004 from Mount Baker Secondary School, Southeast Kootenay School District Five, in Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. During her tenure, she notably taught at several Washington school districts, including grades four through 12 at Burbank Public Schools (now Columbia School District), bilingual education at Othello Public Schools, the Texas-Washington migrant education program at Pasco School District and Spanish to grades one through eight at Saint Joseph's Catholic School. Additionally, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec gained tremendous expertise in academia teaching literature and language courses, including at the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico and several local colleges in the state of Washington, including Peninsula College and Columbia Basin Community College.

In addition to teaching, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec established McFarlin-Kosiec Enterprises in 1986, a business that she maintained for more than 25 years. She subsequently established Info Connect as the president in 2012. Heavily active in arts and entertainment, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec wrote, produced, directed, choreographed and acted in numerous plays. She notably choreographed the Ballet Lutacoga Modern Dance Troupe, "Sunday in the Park," "Military Celebration" and "Meet Me in St. Louis" with the Richland Light Opera Company. Furthermore, she was the artistic director of the "Desert Storm Charity Show" in Pasco, Washington, the writer and producer of "Windows on Women" and the director of "How He Lied to Her Husband" at the Cranbrook Community Theatre. Her most recent contribution was a play called "The Insurance Man," which was very successful and recently concluded on June 29, 2022. Among other creative contributions, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has authored numerous journal articles and short stories in various publications, was a writer for Temos, a freelance writer for Fernie Free Press and an education editor for the El Sol Newspaper.

Extensively involved in nonprofit and civic organizations throughout her career, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec served as the vice president and president of a local health care coalition in Fernie, British Columbia that successfully saved the hospital, doctors and other employees from losing their jobs. She was also a board member and president of the Mid Columbia Regional Ballet Company, Richland, WA from 1986 to 1996. She was also instrumental in establishing the Nordic Skiing Society in Fernie, British Columbia from 2006 to 2007 with her late husband Leonard, was a precinct committeewoman for the Democratic Party between 1988 and 2006, and, among countless other roles, was active on the parks and recreation commission in Kennewick, Washington, from 1990 to 1996. Furthermore, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec was active on numerous school committees. She continues to serve as President of the Fernie Heritage Cemetery Restoration Society and the Fernie Arts Theatre Ensemble Society.

Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec received a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Spanish at Texas Christian University in 1960 and 1964, respectively, and a Doctor of Philosophy in leadership in education at Gonzaga University in 1985. Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec received her principal's credentials and completed other coursework from Central Washington State University and did course work from Eastern Washington State University.

Contributing to her field, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec has been active in numerous professional associations, including the National Education Association, the American Association of University Woman, the International Platform Association, the Dance Educators Association of Washington, the Provincial Intermediate and Middle Years Teachers' Association, the British Columbia Retired Teachers' Association, Cranbrook, British Columbia. and the Fernie Retired BC Teachers' Association. Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec also served as a past vice president of the Association for Quality and Participation.

Honoring her achievements, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec was recognized by the Spanish Embassy for her research on Lope de Vega in 1962. She subsequently won the Helen Gibbs Award in 1965 and the Rainbow Rockers Award on behalf of the Lutacaga Dance Troupe in 1992. Among other recognition, Dr. McFarlin-Kosiec received Professional Theater Status from the Canada Council for the Arts in 2021.
