MYRTLE BEACH, SC, November 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gerard C. van der Horst has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Supported by years of professional experience in technology, Mr. van der Horst has distinguished himself as a technology coordinator for St. Andrew's Catholic School. Between 2009 and 2021, he helped carry out a multi-million dollar expansion program, built 30 desktop computers, and worked with STREAM technology which is STEM with religion and the arts added. Alongside his work at St. Andrew's, Mr. van der Horst consulted for IBM, where he also conducted training classes for clients and employees. Previously, he gained valuable expertise as a manager of data communications for AVX.

An expert in his field, Mr. van der Horst completed coursework in programming and information technology via the University of Texas at Austin. Similarly, he earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from St. Bonaventure University. In conjunction with his work, he served as a member of the advisory board for Horry-Georgetown Technical College and served as a girls' softball coach. Likewise, he organized a fundraising campaign for their local church, which allowed a group of children to meet with Pope John Paul II during the World Wide Youth Event in 1994.

While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. van der Horst is most proud to have completed a project at AVX, through which he successfully installed fiber optics throughout their headquarters in Myrtle Beach. By linking their 19 plants across the world, he greatly improved response times for network users. A dedicated and hardworking individual, he drew inspiration from the example of his father, who was hidden during the Second World War by Jan and Miep Gies, the same couple that helped Anne Frank and her family. He also found a positive role model in his grandfather, who developed the process of porous chrome plating, which is used to realign power cylinders with a chrome surface. He gained his work attitude while attending St. Marks School of Texas. In the coming years, Mr. van der Horst intends to gradually steer his efforts toward retirement and reflect upon his success.
