Dr. Punt is a distinguished emergency veterinarian who has been caring for animals at Fidum Veterinary Services LLC in La Jolla, California, since 2018. Specializing in small animal emergency and general veterinary medicine services, she is a compassionate and caring professional who attributes her success to maintaining a high level of practice standards. Additionally, she focuses on ensuring that her patient's caregivers are well-educated on how to properly care for their pets. Previously, Dr. Punt worked as an independent consultant for veterinary and animal-centered businesses. She also held positions as a veterinarian at both Kansas State University and Iowa State University.
Apart from her work at the veterinary office, Dr. Punt is the founder and chief executive officer of mPet, a smartphone application that was launched in 2019 to safely store, manage, and transfer pet medical and health information. Looking toward the future, Dr. Punt aims to pursue teaching so that she can train and mentor new veterinarians in the field. She also aspires to begin conducting more research as it relates to her field and publish her work in scholarly journals.
In her free time, Dr. Punt has served as a part-time consultant on behalf of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Dr. Punt has also donated her time and expertise to Canine Companions for Independence and the FACE Foundation.
Dr. Punt attended the University of California at Davis where she earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and molecular biology in 2007. She subsequently received a Master of Science in biochemistry at the University of Buffalo in 2009 and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at the Western University of Health Sciences in 2015. During her studies, Dr. Punt also notably served as a research assistant at Harvard Medical School from 2009 to 2011.
To remain abreast in her field, Dr. Punt is a member of the Veterinary Business Management Association, the Veterinary Virtual Care Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.
Dr. Punt was notably a 2012 Merial Veterinary Scholar and a 2013 National Institutes of Health veterinary scholar. In recognition of her contributions, Dr. Punt was featured in Discover Magazines in 2020 and San Diego Magazine in 2021 and 2022 and was also featured on several podcasts in 2022.
