Leading a diverse and rewarding career for more than 50 years, Dr. Klotz is presently a member of the Scientists Working Group on Biological and Chemical Weapons Security since 2003 specializing in biosecurity. The Group is a part of the Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, through which Dr. Klotz has also been serving in a volunteer position as a senior science fellow since 2005. In this capacity, he studies and contributes his findings in articles regarding the risk of chemical and biological weapons. The Center is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization that was founded nearly 50 years ago. Serving as a non-partisan research organization, it is devoted to eradicating nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons threats and promoting international peace and security.

Dr. Klotz began teaching in 1971 at Harvard University as an assistant and associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology. He later returned to the university as an instructor and course director for the summer executive program and as an instructor of a biotechnology course at the Harvard University Extension School. Dr. Klotz also taught as an associate professor at his alma mater, Princeton University, and was both a research scholar and adjunct professor at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University.

Transitioning into the biotechnology industry, Dr. Klotz helped found BioTechnica International Inc., served as the vice president of new business development and served on the board of directors. Among other noteworthy roles, Dr. Klotz was the co-managing director at Bridging BioScience and BioBusiness LLC from 2012 to 2022.

Well-regarded as a scholar and researcher, Dr. Klotz has disseminated his findings in more than 100 peer-reviewed journals. He also co-authored with Edward Sylvester the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book "The Gene Age: Genetic Engineering and the Next Industrial Revolution" published by Charles Scribner's Sons in 1983 and the book "Breeding Bio Insecurity: How U.S. Biodefense Is Exporting Fear, Globalizing Risk, and Making Us All Less Secure" published by the University of Chicago Press in 2009. Additionally, Dr. Klotz authored "Beyond the Science: The Business of Drug Development" published by Amazon in 2022. Written for scientists, technicians, and business professionals that possess little to no experience in the industry, Dr. Klotz's recent book provides various strategies, analyses, and other insights regarding drug discovery and development.

Dr. Klotz received a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics in 1965 at Princeton University. Shortly thereafter, he was accepted to the University of California in San Diego where he achieved a Doctor of Philosophy in chemistry in 1971.

Dr. Klotz notably received a coveted Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Grant during his tenure at Harvard University. His 2009 book "Breeding Bio Insecurity" was also recognized as One of the Best Six Books in Atlantic Magazine.
