Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

A respected mental health practitioner and licensed clinical social worker, Patricia Hanes Meyer, LCSW, PLC has excelled and served in her profession over the course of five decades.

For the past 46 years, Ms. Meyer has maintained her own private practice as a psychotherapist and individual and family therapist in Herndon, Virginia, now in North Carolina. As the basis for her assessment and work with families and individuals, she utilizes the Bowen Family Systems Theory, which is a framework for understanding one's family history, its emotional patterns, as well as the emotional patterns of self, creating the potential of building a more solid, productive and fulfilling life. An expert in individual and family psychotherapy, she works with adolescents and adults of all ages.

Alongside her primary work, Ms. Meyer is a prolific writer and researcher, proven in her numerous published works. At the beginning of her career journey, Ms. Meyer pondered pursuing medicine or law but became inspired to work with adolescents. Ms. Meyer graduated from Carroll College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1969 and was subsequently hired by the juvenile court, where she became a pioneer in the use of the Bowen Family Systems Theory. Later, she also achieved a Master of Social Work from the Catholic University of America in 1976.

Progressing in her career, Ms. Meyer served as the director of family therapy for Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court from 1970 to 1977. She also spent a significant period as a consultant for the Fairfax County Crossroads Drug Abuse Program from 1972 to 1974 and the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court between 1977 and 2009. Additionally, Ms. Meyer served as a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Georgetown University Family Center at Georgetown University Medical School from 1976 to 1984.

Throughout her career, Ms. Meyer feels honored to have been able to use her knowledge of the Bowen Theory to enable motivated individuals to function more solidly. She advises young professionals to figure out how to contribute to the world through their passions and act on them. In addition to mental health and social work, Ms. Meyer feels particularly connected to her work with her local church, as she has served as a leader in various capacities, including leading a women's bible study group. Likewise, she has consistently contributed to her community as a youth travel soccer coach for two decades and as a Girl Scout leader for 12 years.

Looking ahead, Ms. Meyer looks forward to writing and reporting about the knowledge she has acquired during the decades of her work.
