Since 2018, he has focused his efforts on crafting and implementing policies for the state's small business agency while managing a staff of about 60 dedicated professionals. As part of his role, he regularly interacts with senior, federal, states and locally elected and appointed government officials, as well as leaders in the private industry, academia, business, trade associations and think tanks.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Bardack began his career as a law clerk for the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1978 and then was a legislative counsel to Congressman Bob Garcia in 1979. He became an attorney with Barrett Smith Schapiro Simon and Armstrong in 1981 and was a small business manager for the City of Cleveland Department of Economic Development in 1983. The following year, he served as president of the Economic Development Resources in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania until becoming the senior economic development policy advisor to New Jersey Governor Tom Kean in 1986.
Mr. Bardack rejoined the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development as a deputy assistant secretary for economic development in 1989 and served as president for the Economic Development Resources in Washington, DC in 1993. The same year, he took a role as the vice president for government and external relations for the National Mentoring Partnership until becoming an international online education manager for Booz Allen Hamilton in 1999. He continued working in education, including positions with MyJewishLearning.com, the United States Department of Defense's Advanced Distributed Learning Initiative and the Obama for America campaign. He subsequently became the director of George Mason University's Center for Online Workforce Development in 2009 and was a government marketing consultant with Planning and Learning Technologies in 2011. Following this time, he was a senior education and training solutions architect for SAIC in 2014.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Bardack earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Yale University in 1975. He then attained a Juris Doctor from the American University Law School in 1978. Well-qualified in his field, he was admitted to the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and the American Bar Association. Among his professional accomplishments, he was honored with an Outstanding Staff of the Year Award by the University of Maryland in 2022.
