Dr. Nithin Panicker Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Computational Fluid Dynamics Modeling and Simulation

Nithin Panicker, PhD channels years of simulation expertise into his work with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Dr. Panicker was honored with a High Performance Computing for Energy Innovation Award as co-PI through the U.S. Department of Energy totaling more than $300 thousand in funds.

KNOXVILLE, TN, March 06, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Nithin Panicker has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on years of professional expertise in computational modeling and simulation of complex engineering systems applied for energy applications, Dr. Panicker presently excels as a research scientist in the Nuclear Energy and Fuel Cycles Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Since obtaining the role in 2020, he has written proposals to bring in funds for different research and development activities related to U.S. energy and manufacturing challenges, liaised with companies across the United States in order to engage them in partnerships and collaborations, and applied for funds from different energy agencies, in particular Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, Advanced Manufacturing Office (EERE AMO). Prior to joining Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Dr. Panicker worked as a research engineer for Ford Motor Company and as a CFD engineer with Tenneco Inc.

In light of his professional accomplishments, Dr. Panicker was honored with a High Performance Computing for Energy Innovation Award as co-PI through the U.S. Department of Energy totaling more than $300 thousand in funds. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in partnering with Spar Energy, a company that develops renewable energy technologies to harvest waste heat - primarily from data centers. He believes that upon successful completion of the development of this technology, the greenhouse emissions and the cost of electricity in the U.S. will substantially reduce, providing significant boost to the economy, while increasing job competitiveness.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Panicker gained valuable expertise in computational modeling and simulation of multiphase flows and as a research assistant and research intern with such institutions as Iowa State University's Centre For Multiphase Flow Research and Education, and Robert Bosch LLC. Due to his vast breadth of knowledge in his field, he has contributed to a plethora of articles, including "A Large Eddy Simulation Study of Turbulence, Alumina transport and Heat transfer in Conventional Smelting Cell Using OpenFOAM" and "Computational Fluid Dynamics Investigations of Flow, Heat Transfer, and Oxidation in Heat Recovery Steam Generator." Dr. Panicker has had articles featured in several prestigious journals namely Applied Thermal Engineering, Applied Mathematical Modeling, Chemical Engineering Science, Metallurgical and Materials Transactions B and Journal of Fluids Engineering. In addition to that, Dr. Panicker's PhD work has contributed significantly towards chapter 7 of the book: Advanced Approaches in Turbulence 2021, where advanced and novel mathematical models used to predict turbulence in flows encountered in many engineering systems are showcased. Due to his outstanding contribution to his field, Dr. Panicker is frequently invited for research talks by various conferences and research organizations.

Outside of his work, driven to stay abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the American Society for Thermal Fluids and Engineering, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the American Nuclear Society. An expert in his field, Dr. Panicker holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, a prestigious undergraduate institute ranked among the top 10 schools of India. Over the years, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Cincinnati and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University.

Though hard work and dedication, along with passion for his field, have brought him far in his career, he credits his success to humility, respect, his desire to learn, and his desire to make a positive impact on society. Within the next five to ten years, Dr. Panicker aims to lead a group of scientists who can work on the severe and challenging energy, and environment problems that currently face the United States.
