Drawing on over four decades of diverse expertise, Ms. Cherry specializes in museum curating exhibitions and educational programs. Since 2008, she has found much success as the executive director of the Meridian Museum of Art in Mississippi. In this capacity, she serves as an exhibition installer and the administrator of the education programs, and is responsible for accounting, budgeting, public speaking, grant writing and managing the social media accounts for the museum. Ms. Cherry initially began her career working at St. Paul Travelers Companies Inc., formerly known as the United States Fidelity and Guaranty Insurance Company, from 1979 to 1992.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Cherry pursued an education at the Mississippi State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1978. As a commitment to her field, she has completed coursework in art history and fine arts at the East Mississippi Community College in 2016. Additionally, Ms. Cherry has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Alliance of Museums and the Meridian Council for the Arts.
Well regarded for her achievements in the field, Ms. Cherry has received multiple awards, including the Meridian Star Class of Top 10 Over 50 award in 2022, the John J. Burns Council Outstanding Community Service award from the Knights of Columbus in 2017 and the Insurance Woman of the Year award from the National Association of Insurance Women in Meridian, to only name a few. Among her professional accomplishments, she is most proud of her ability to contribute to her community through the educational and public service programs that help distinguish the Museum of Arts throughout the state. Reflecting on a long career, she attributes much of her success to her diligence, strong educational background and solid family values. Looking toward the future, Ms. Cherry aspires to continually volunteer and hopes to establish adequate policies and procedures for the new executive director of the museum prior to her retirement.
