MISSOURI CITY, TX, May 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Ba-Bie Teng has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Backed by years of professional experience in education and scientific research, Dr. Teng presently excels as an adjunct professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Previously, she worked as a professor of molecular medicine from 1998 until 2021. Over the years, she also gained valuable expertise in the field as a professor at Baylor College and as a research assistant professor at the University of Chicago. Due to her vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Teng has authored a plethora of articles, including "seminal discovery of Apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme (APOBEC1)" and "PCSK9 deficiency reduced atherosclerosis, apolipoprotein B secretion and endothelial dysfunction." Throughout her career, she has been featured in such publications as Science, Proc.Natl.Acad.Sci. USA, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Arterioscler Thromb Vasc Biol, or Genetic Vaccine and Therapy.

Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Teng aligns herself with the International Atherosclerosis Society, American Heart Association, Gene and Cell Therapy, and RNA Society. Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned a Bachelor of Science from Taiwan University in 1971. Subsequently, Dr. Teng received a Master of Science in biochemistry from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a PhD in experimental medicine from McGill University. Additionally, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in England.

In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Teng was endowed with The Jerry and Maury Rubenstein Foundation Distinguished Professorship in Heart Disease Research from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. While her career has been filled with highlights, she takes the most pride in cloning an Apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme (Apobec1), which played a significant role in solving the mystery of lipid metabolism during her career at the University of Chicago. The cornerstone of her success lay with her mentors, specifically her PhD adviser, Allan David Sniderman, who encouraged her along the way. Looking ahead, Dr. Teng aims to write reviews of her scientific field and contribute to the community as a volunteer; she wants to help children, especially girls, pursue careers in scientific research.
