Dr. Yingying Chen Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Education

Yingying Chen channels years of experience in education, engineering, and more into her work at Rutgers University



Looking toward the future, Dr. Chen intends to continue her research and encourage more female students into the field of electrical and computer engineering.

    MORGANVILLE, NJ, May 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Yingying Chen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A seasoned educational administrator, researcher and instructor, Dr. Chen presently serves as a professor and department chair at Rutgers University through which she specializes in computer engineering, mobile sensing and computing, applied machine learning, Internet of Things, and cybersecurity. Over the years, she has also worked at the University as an associate undergraduate director and graduate director. During the early stages of her career, Dr. Chen gained valuable expertise in education and the technology industry through the Stevens Institute of Technology and as a member of the technical staff at Lucent Technologies.

Alongside her work, Dr. Chen has contributed to her community and the industry through the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) including serving as Associate Editor at Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, ACM/IEEE Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE Network Magazine. She is the Column Editor of the "Women in Network" for IEEE Network Magazine, through which she has the passion to attract more female students and researchers to pursue their careers in the field of engineering. She is also serving as an executive member in IEEE New Jersey Coast Section. Additionally, she is a fellow of the National Academy of Inventors and a fellow of IEEE. An expert in her field, Dr. Chen earned a PhD in computer science from Rutgers University.

In light of her professional achievements, Dr. Chen was honored with many awards over the years, including the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame Innovators Award, IEEE Innovators Award, and multiple Best Paper Awards from the Top IEEE/ACM International Conferences. Likewise, she was named an ACM Distinguished Scientist, and received the Peter D. Cherasia Faculty Scholar Award from Rutgers University. While her career has been filled with highlights, she is most proud of her work in mobile sensing and cybersecurity by using multiple sensing modalities such as wireless, acoustic, and vibration signals to achieve activity recognition, healthcare monitoring, and user authentication. The cornerstone of her success has been her motivation, persistence, hard work, and love of what she does. Looking toward the future, Dr. Chen intends to continue her research and encourage more female students into the field of electrical and computer engineering.
