She brings deep and varied experience to her current position, including having contributed positively as an athletic trainer for the Lady Bulldogs at Southwestern Oklahoma State University between 1988 and 1990 and as a fitness trainer and swim coach with the Amarillo YMCA in 1995. Additionally, Ms. Shaklee has excelled in the dual role of teacher and coach with the Amarillo Independent School District, from 1994 to 1998, the Borger Independent School District, from 1998 to 2005, and Putnam City Schools between 2005 and 2015.
Diverse industry appointments have further advanced Ms. Shaklee's expertise; for example, from 1992 to 1994, she was the acting director of Parks, Recreation and Special Events for the city of Weatherford, Oklahoma, and from 2014 to 2015, she capably served as the office manager and personal assistant for True Performance Administrators in Oklahoma City. Ms. Shaklee is particularly proud of her lengthy affiliation with the Special Olympics softball program, where she first volunteered in 1998, and between 2002 and 2009, she was committed to successfully coaching youth attendees of the Sooner Softball Camp.
Numerous distinguished acknowledgments mark the milestones of Ms. Shaklee's career as an educator and mentor, including the honor of being named Teacher of the Year in 2023. In 2022, she was gratified to be named the Hillcrest Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Metro Conference Oklahoma designated Ms. Shaklee Coach of the Year in 2005. Previous recognition for her stellar work in athletics includes the accolade of Softball Coach of the Year for Texas 3–4A in 1999, and Ms. Shaklee was included in Who's Who Among Teachers in 2002.
A Bachelor of Science in physical education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, which she completed in 1994, has proven foundational to Ms. Shaklee's curricular success in physical education. Moreover, she holds sustained memberships in the Oklahoma Coaches Association, the Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association and the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Ms. Shaklee also actively networks with colleagues through her continued affiliation with the Oklahoma Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers.
Ms. Shaklee attributes her success thus far to consistency and a deep sense of compassion. She also provides students with an inspiring example of a productive and positive attitude, which she aims to impart to others in their own pursuits of an active lifestyle.
