She has worked at Kaiser Permanente since 2008, first in the Mid-Atlantic region and later in Northern California.
Born in India, Dr. Jagannathan was drawn to medicine because of her love of helping others. After completing high school in India and completing entrance exams for both engineering and medicine, she completed her studies with a full scholarship at the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University and Kilpauk Medical College, both located in Tamil Nadu in South India. After relocating to the United States, she completed an internship in internal medicine at St. Barnabas Hospital New York and a residency in internal medicine at St. Agnes Hospital.
While completing her medical school in India, Dr. Jagannathan's mother suffered a cardiac arrest during her visits to India. Dr. Jagannathan performed CPR on her mother, who was later resuscitated in the ER and spent several weeks in the ICU. Dr. Jagannathan took a leave of absence from her medical education to nurse her mother back to a stable state. During that period, she became deeply knowledgeable about food and cooking and completely transformed her mother's diet. The experience changed the way Dr. Jagannathan perceived food, set her on a journey to healthy living, and later inspired her to specialize in nutrition and obesity medicine.
Dr. Jagannathan's journey was further tangled by a complicated bout of COVID that occurred during the pandemic while serving patients on the front lines—this required months of recovery and further emphasized the need for physicians to focus on their overall well-being while serving patients.
Today, Dr. Jagannathan is board certified in internal medicine and obesity medicine and is a physician nutrition specialist at NBPNS. Though her professional journey is filled with many memorable moments, she is particularly proud every time a patient transforms their health and makes a positive change in their lives. Dr. Jagannathan considers it a calling to increase awareness of obesity and challenge institutions that perpetuate bad habits in consumers, such as high-fat and high-sugar diets.
Outside of work, Dr. Jagannathan enjoys spending time with her husband, Ravi, and her daughters, Shreya and Trisha; her family is a tremendous source of inspiration to her, as is her Christian faith. As a mother, she tries to instill in her children that they must earn their successes and that nothing is simply handed to them. In her free time, Dr. Jagannathan enjoys cooking, baking, exercising, spending time outdoors, watercolor painting and writing. She is currently working on a book about the importance of love and relationships.
