Backed by years of professional experience in safety consulting, Mr. Kerns presently excels as the vice chairman of the Blumfield Township Planning Commission of Saginaw County. Over the years, he has also worked as the executive board chairman of the Saginaw County 911 Communications Authority and as a consultant for the Tri-County Contractors Association. During the early stages of his career, Mr. Kerns gained valuable expertise in varying roles with Kerns Safety Consulting LLC, the Saginaw County Road Commission, the Blumfield Township Board of Review, and ten years as Blumfield Township supervisor. Similarly, he dedicated himself to his country through the U.S. Navy between 1965 and 1969.
Outside of his work, Mr. Kerns contributes to his community as a cornerman for Rock Steady Boxing and through St. Jude's, as well as the 100 Club of Saginaw County. Previously, he dedicated himself to the Blumfield Township Fire Department and Trinity Lutheran Church. Driven to remain abreast of changes in the field, he aligns himself with the Tuscola County and Saginaw County Fire Associations, the Saginaw County Township Officers Association, and the Tuscola County Fire Investigation.
An expert in his field, Mr. Kerns holds a diploma from Douglas MacArthur High School. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, becoming a medical first responder and ambulance attendant through the Michigan Department of Public Health and earning certifications in arson/fire investigation and firefighting through the Fire Fighters Training Council. Likewise, Mr. Kerns became certified in hazardous materials operations through the Michigan State Police and Fire Fighter Training Council.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Kerns takes the most pride in working at the same place for more than three and a half decades. Another standout has been accomplishing what he has without a college degree. The cornerstone of his success lay in the vast breadth of experiences he has had throughout his career.
