He learned that reaching his goals would be difficult at an early age. Still, when he had doubts and did not know what to do, he preferred to let himself be carried away by his dreams than to let himself be carried away by life.
Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Mr. Munguía specializes in highway and bridge inspections. Since 2021, he has found success as the director of construction engineering and inspection services at Arcadis. In this capacity, he directs a complex and specialized construction engineering administration and inspection program in Texas. He collaborates with team members, internal groups, and external entities, including clients, sub-consultants, and relevant government agencies. Prior to this role, he was active as a senior construction project manager at the TranSystems Corporation from 2020 to 2021. In his career-related endeavors, Mr. Munguía has authored numerous books on highway construction engineering and inspection.
Mr. Munguía initially began his vocation working as an estimator and a field engineer assistant at ALSO S.A. de C.V. and ICA Ingenieros Civiles Asociados in Mexico City from 1990 until 1999. Following this post, he was active as a construction estimator and manager at Jay Miller and Sundown Construction Inc. in Del Rio, Texas, from 2001 to 2004. Between 2005 and 2010, he garnered expertise as an administrator at Del Rio Construction Management while concurrently serving as a quality control manager at Reece Albert Inc. Subsequently, he excelled as a highway construction field engineer at PTP Transportation LLC and Tradeco Infrastructure Inc. from 2010 until 2015. Mr. Munguía also contributed to Entech Civil Engineers, where he served as highway construction and inspection project manager, program construction mobility coordinator, and construction department manager from 2015 to 2020.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Munguía pursued an education at Universidad Iberoamericana A.C., where he obtained a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1994. He continued his academic efforts at Boston University Metropolitan College, earning a project management certificate in 2012. As a commitment to his field, he has been certified in construction scheduling, financing, cost estimating, and control via Columbia University. Additionally, he has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Project Management Institute, and the American Concrete Institute. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Munguía contributes to the Infrastructure Advancement Institute, and he fights for a just cause to ensure that young engineers and entry-level inspectors get an opportunity to start their careers in the transportation field.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Munguía is most proud to have established lane closure procedures to reduce the impact on the traveling public during construction for the Texas Department of Transportation and to have passed his professional engineering exam. Reflecting on his career, he attributes much of his success to earning trust, sharing knowledge, seeking mutual benefit, and working hard.
