Susan K.F. Kau, RNC-NIC Honored for Distinction in Nursing

Susan K.F. Kau, RNC-NIC is a staff nurse at the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children



She is a contributing author of "The Late Preterm Infant" and "Neonatal Nursing: A Global Perspective" and revised/edited chapters in the 6th Edition of "Comprehensive Neonatal Nursing Care."

    HONOLULU, HI, June 20, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Susan K.F. Kau, RNC-NIC has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Kau is a certified neonatal intensive care nurse with more than 40 years of experience in her field. A gifted student with high academic goals, Ms. Kau initially hoped to major in Latin in college. Her interest in nursing was sparked during an emergency appendectomy at the age of 16, when a clinical nurse spoke to her about their experiences in the field. She attended the University of Hawaii, graduating in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and began her career in clinical care shortly after.

Ms. Kau found her passion in working with neonates early in her career, and in 1988 she completed a national certification course in neonatal intensive care nursing. She continues to specialize in the care of high-need and pre-term infants as a member of the neonatal intensive care team at the Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children, a major hospital serving urban Honolulu. In recognition of her dedication to her work, Ms. Kau has been the recipient of numerous awards including a 2016 Nurse of the Year Award from Caring For Hawaii Neonates and the 2022 Royal Order of Kapi'olani Award, an exclusive award presented to only three honorees who exemplify the goals of neonatal nursing care in the community. Awards presented by Hawaiian Civic Club and Caring for Hawaii Neonates.

As a part of her commitment to professional growth and excellence, Ms. Kau is an active member in the Hawaii Nurses Association, the Academy of Neonatal Nurses, Caring for Hawaii Neonates, and the National Association of Neonatal Nursing. She is a contributing author of two books, "The Late Preterm Infant" (2019) and "Neonatal Nursing: A Global Perspective" (2022), and revised/edited chapters in the 6th Edition of "Comprehensive Neonatal Nursing Care." She is a dedicated patient and community educator. In her personal time, Ms. Kau enjoys walking, cooking, photography, Faberge eggery, and embellishing handbags and accessories with Swarovski crystals. In the coming years, Ms. Kau looks forward to concluding her professional work to pursue community involvement and creative hobbies.
